Berg Clamping systems Tool Clamping - SSKV

Application
Berg SSKV gripper are primarily designed for drawing in and ejecting steep taper tooling provided with retention knobs internationally standardized as per DIN, ANSI, MAS, JIS and ISO which allow fast automatic tool changes. Actuation is mechanical, hydraulic, electro-mechanical
or pneumatic.

Design features
SSKV clamping sets have six collets held by an annular spring which allows a rocking movement for clamping the steep taper tools. During clamping the taper of the centrally positioned drawbolt increases the actuation force, thereby generating a much higher clamping force at the collets. The special tribolic coating guarantees the highest possible
constant clamping force. The clamping set is maintenance free. A locking bolt permits infinitely variable positioning and fixation of the clamping set in the Z axis. No special tools are required for assembly and disassembly.

Berg Gripper SSKE - KH

SSK gripper are primarily designed for drawing in and ejecting steep taper tooling provided with retention knobs internationally standardized as per DIN, ANSI, MAS, JIS and ISO which allow fast automatic tool changes.

SSK gripper are not only suitable for clamping tools, but also workpieces or workpiece holders and pallets on machining centres milling machines boring machines grinding centres special purpose machines and handling systems

Grippers in special designs are available for other shapes in addition to the types for standardized clamping bolts. Actuation is mechanical, hydraulic, electro-mechanical or pneumatic.

Design features
SSK gripper comprise four clamping segments which are captively connected to the draw bolt to ensure easy assembly. They transfer the clamping force positively from the draw bolt to the retention knob.
It is possible to clamp tool shanks of the same steep taper with retention knobs of different standards using different gripper in a uniformly designed spindle. Refer to the following table detailing the assignments. The version SSKS.. was developed for very high spindle rotational speeds. Their external design is identical to that of the SSK version of the same type. Gripper of the series SSK..JBS I(II) are always designed for the high-speed version.

In comparison to the very high clamping forces of the SSK, SSKE and SSKF series, the SSKE - KH series are designed in favour of a considerably shorter axial stroke according to the generally common values.
For new spindle designs the gripper style SSKF is recommended.. #workholding

Berg Clamping systems Tool Clamping - HSH

Application
For HSC workpiece machining the clamping forces according to DIN 69893 are frequently no longer sufficient. The idea to create an extremely rigid connection between the tool and spindle by placing the clamping element directly against the internal spindle contour, reached its design limits, due to the cross sections and surfaces available for the force transmission. With their HSH-gripper, BERG-Spanntechnik have met the requirements for clamping forces notably exceeding the values specified in DIN 69893. HSH-gripper are intended for the clamping of hollow shank tooling with central cooling lubricant supply.

Design features
HSH-gripper consist of six sturdy clamping claws, which, held by means of an annular spring, execute a tilting movement when the hollow shank tooling is changed and removed. During clamping, the centrally arranged draw-bolt transfers the actuation force onto the clamping segments, where it acts as a direct clamping force without further force deviation. The generously dimensioned face of the draw-bolt has been provided for tool ejection. The constructive design of the clamping element offers a large clamping reserve. The internal spindle contour is easy to manufacture.

GMT Electro-Mechanical Actuators – U

Electro-Mechanical Actuators – U are meant primarily for use on rotating work spindles where there are restrictions on the use of pneumatic or hydraulic rotating cylinders for the actuation of power chucks, expanding mandrels, collets etc.

It can rotate maximum upto 3000 rpm.

GMT - Electro Mechanical Actuator - UF

Electro Mechanical Actuator - UF have been developed as a time saver for quick and efficient clamping and de-clamping of arbors on machines (milling machines, boring machines etc.) which have steep, self-releasing taper on the spindle.

Where a number of tools are to be used for an operation, GMT EMA enables the work to be completed in a single set-up. Use of this Electro Mechanical Actuator ensures fast and quick change of tool and cuts non-productive time drastically. Since the operation on the work piece is finished in one set-up, in process inventory is reduced.

History of GMT - Our association with M/S. Techno Valves.

This company manufacture different kinds of non ferrous valves for gas industries. They have a number of ACE CNC Lathes fitted with GMT 2 Jaw Power Chucks. Sometime in Feb 2010 our Mr. Mahendran and Mr. Karthikeyan visited them and met Mr. Rohit Behani, Exec. Mfg. & Sales, Techno Valves and created enquiry for  200 mm dia. Power Operated Power Indexing chuck suitable for ACE CNC Lathe. However, in early July 10 customer decided to order for Mazak CNC Lathe Model Quick Turn Star and asked for fresh quotation for 200 mm dia Power Operated Power Indexing chuck. Mr, Sengupta who retired from LMW as GM and joined Mazak India Kolkatta interacted with GMT. Since he had several interactions with GMT during his tenure at LMW,  he understood the products thoroughly and helped GMT, Techno and Mazak   to initiate discussions and sort out several technical issues viz. dedicated Power Pack for Power Operated Power Indexing chuck, hydraulic and electrical circuit and logic write up ( Interfacing for indexing chuck). The details were sent to Mazak Singapore.  Order for  2B 200 Power Operated Power Indexing chuck complete package including Power Pack and all accessories including special jaws was placed upon us on 17th Aug. 10.
On receipt of the order further finalization of jaw design took place. We had difficulty in one particular component for offering special jaws. We overcame the difficulty and offered modified jaw design. Received Spindle details and the Chuck with accessories were manufactured. Component trials were done on our LMW Rigi 25 CNC Lathe. The chuck with accessories were dispatched on 20th Feb. 10.
The Mazak Machine was installed in the new factory of Techno Valves and our team visited on 20th Apr. 10 to commission the chuck. The chuck successfully commissioned with electrical interface with the Mazak Engineer and our Mr. Kandan. Final trials were taken and obtained report from Techno valves that the chuck is working satisfactorily.

History of GMT - Our association with M/S. Associated Toolings Kolkatta-2

Early Nov. 08 Associated Toolings decided to repeat the order. This time Associated Toolings informed LMW to order for the total package including hydraulic power pack upon GMT. Machine Rigi 25 CNC Lathe.

Certain improvements were requested by Associated Toolings and LMW details are as under.

  • Safety Valve for clamping cylinder.
  • Centrifugal Force Compensating.
  • Sensing Unit.
  • Interfacing with machine controls.
After a detailed discussions with GMT the above features were incorporated in the design. Offer sent by GMT to LMW,  on 28th. Nov. 08. Order received from LMW on 6th Feb. 09. Chuck was dispatched to LMW on 20-03-09. On receipt of the chuck at LMW our team visited and commissioned the chuck including interfacing with CNC controls so that the machine is capitalised before 31st March 10.

Support and confidence of the customer viz. Associated Toolings on GMT is unique. To this date they continue their support on our products and introduced several of their friends in Kolkatta  who own industries and ancillaries to GMT for Power Operated Hand Indexing chuck and other products. It is a unique relationship.
